THE TIPOFF: MavsGG faces Celtics and Jazz in opening tournament

About The Tournament

THE TIPOFF features two days of pool play on June 16-17 to determine the eight teams that advance to the playoffs on June 18-19. Each team will play four games in pool play, competing against two other teams in its group twice. At the conclusion of pool play, the seven teams with the best records in each group as well as one wild card entrant will advance to the playoffs. Each matchup in the playoff rounds will be played in a best-of-three format. All 23 teams will compete for a total prize pool of $160,000. The winner of THE TIPOFF will earn nearly half of the prize pool, with the remainder awarded to the runner-up, third- and fourth- place finishers (first place – $70,000; second place – $50,000; third and fourth place – $20,000 each). About Celtics Crossover Gaming (0-7)

The regular season for the squad from Boston has not been enjoyable at all heading into the first tournament of the year. After sitting Weeks 1 and 2 out, they have suffered 7 straight losses to being Season 3. Earning a trip to the final four last season, Celtics Gaming retained two-thirds of its roster, bringing back Bulleyy, MEL EAST,NOxAUTOGRAPHSx, and oFAB. The remaining two roster spots have been filled by shooting guard Easy, who was acquired in an offseason trade with Heat Check Gaming, and center TooxCool, who was selected by CLTX with the 64th overall pick in the 2020 Draft. About Jazz Gaming (4-1)

The team heads into the tournament on a three game win streak, including a win over the defending champions T-Wolves Gaming. Jazz Gaming’s roster features three returning players: Shaka “Yeah I Compete” Browne, who was the franchise’s first-ever selection in the 2018 NBA 2K League Draft; Lytel “Lotty” Martin; and 2019 No. 1 overall selection Spencer “Ria” Wyman. The roster was completed at the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft, where Jazz Gaming made three selections: Kimanni “Splashy” Ingram (10th overall), Freddy “GetOnMyLevel” Whelan (31st overall) and Brent “Lord Beezus” Aasgaard (57th overall).
